System proves to be a work of art

When hoard-it was asked to build and install a perimeter system at the largest landmark Millennium project outside of London, it called upon the help of Birmingham City University art students.

The firm produced and installed hoardings featuring the students’ artwork at Birmingham’s flagship Millennium Point – and in record time.

Working in partnership with leading contractor, Wilmott Dixon, hoard-it pulled out all the stops to provide 350 metres of perimeter hoardings and installed it within days of receiving the artwork from university students.

“Traditionally, a project like this would take most companies up to four weeks,” explained Stewart Quinn, hoard-it Operations Director. “Our method is much faster, more efficient and cost effective. In the past the work would involve digging holes, putting in concrete and posts, fixing plywood sheets, priming and painting panels, and then calling in the marketing people to brand the boards. It normally involves so many processes and bringing in different groups of contractors.

“At hoard-it we do everything in-house from the design and branding to installation. It means that we can provide hoarding within a quarter of the time of other companies.”

When it came to installing the unique hoard-it system at Millennium Point, this slim- lined process proved invaluable. The project needed a system that could be installed quickly and also capitalise on the high profile space by promoting the corporate image of the university and companies involved.

The main building at Millennium Point welcomes more than 1 million people through its doors each year and so the system would be seen by many. To ensure the design was apt, students were brought in to add their creative input and the completed artwork incorporated different branding and messages.

Stewart said: “We are very proud to have been involved in such a unique and high profile development. We offer total project management to ensure hoard-it is supplied in time and within budget and were able to install the hoardings quickly to meet our client’s needs.”

The experience gained in developing the system for Birmingham City University put hoard-it in a strong position. A similar project is now taking place at Bristol University where hoard-it displays will be used to protect the site and inform as well as direct people around the development.
