Landmark timber frame building, The Open Academy in Norwich, opens its doors to students at the start of the new term just as hoard-it is installed on site to safeguard staff and students from the demolition of the old school.
The purpose built, environmentally friendly academy was a first for Norwich as it was the only academy to be built using a complete timber frame structure. At £21 million, the building was set to transform the education experience for hundreds of students with state of the art facilities alongside a particular focus on the environment.
hoard-it is not the first environmentally friendly innovation from easi-edge to be on site. As the initial build required edge protection, easi-edge developed their edge protection system to fix effectively onto the structural timber frame without affecting the structural integrity. With a gold award for sustainability, easi-edge was the ideal choice for Kier Eastern to provide such a solution.
hoard-it is no exception. With no need to dig foundations, hoard-it was the quick and simple solution to cover a varied landscape. The installation required hoard-it to follow lines across ground, tarmac and block paved areas with a ¾ circle within the hoarding line. The overall installation was achieved using a mixture of alternate vertical and horizontal boards.
Senior Project Manager, Robert Olley of Kier Eastern commented “hoard-it provided the ideal solution to avoid major disruption to the school community. Quick and easy to install, the hoarding system provided a strong cordon to protect staff and students from the demolition of the old school building. The system also had lots of environmental benefits which suited the project. “
The project is hoard-its first project providing hoarding to a timber build school.
